Job Rotation

 Job Rotation means moving from one job assignments to another within the same organization. This method is also known as channel method of development. Job rotation is a technique designed to prepare inexperienced managers to take an additional responsibilities by providing them with experience in different areas of the firm. Job rotation provides the inexperience manager with a broad understanding of the organization – its purpose and its goal. The inexperienced managers will gain insight and broad understanding of the organization and allow specialists to turn to generalists. Job rotation can be of two types, horizontal or vertical. Horizontal rotation is nothing but Lateral transfer and vertical rotation is promoting a worker into a new position.
