Self Management
Self management is a relatively new approach to resolving performance discrepancies. It teaches people to exercise control over their own behavior. Self management begins by having people assess their own problems and set specific (but individual) hard goals to those problems. Once goal are set, the employees discuss ways in which the environment facilitates or hinders goal attainment. In other words, self-management teaches people to observe their own behavior, compare their outputs to their goals, and administer their own reinforcement to sustain goal commitment and performance. The concept of self management is also important in progress or empowerment. In order for employees to work effectively is a firm that delegates power and responsibility, they need to have the basic skills of self management.
