Preparing for thanks giving in a function

A thanks giving is the last item of the agenda in any function. In any function, generally there will be a chief guest as the main focal point of the function. If there are two VIPs in the same function, still one will be called the chief guest and the other as president of the function who will preside over the function. If there is a third VIP he or she may be termed as guest of honor and will give the key note address.

Many functions invariably begin with a prayer, also called invocation. This may be followed by welcome address. After the address of the chief guest and the president and other important activities planned, the function may close with a vote of thanks.

If you are asked to propose a vote of thanks, please do not prepare it fully beforehand. There may be some changes in agenda or even some speakers or even the chief guest. Hence you have to sit through the whole function in order to do this job crisply and attractively.

How to close a speech

As the starting of a speech is very important, closing is also equally important. What is said by you at the end will be mostly remembered longest.

Some people end their talk as – “That is all about all I have to say on this topic so I stop”. Don’t say this and also do not stop abruptly like applying a sudden brake to the car. When you are about to close your talk, about 2 to 3 minutes before, the audience should get a feeling that you are going to end our speech.

Plan your ending carefully much in advance. Rehearse it many times. By-heart the closing sentences word by word. Speak these words powerfully with an impact.

By some means you have to bring the end to a climax and not anticlimax. The applause you get and the bright faces with smile among the audience are the indications that your performance was good.
